Components of a shutter:

Shutter options
Our products are custom crafted to your specifications. Choose from our many options to build the perfect shutter.
Panels
Windows ranging in width from 2 feet to nearly 3 feet can be accommodated
with either one or two panel shutters.
Single Panel:
A single panel can offer a clean, open look that allows maximum light to enter.
For windows wider than 36 inches, Allstar Shutters and Blinds recommend 3 ½ inch louvers. |
Two panels:
Covering windows with two panels offer a more traditional look. Because each panels swing outward to the left and right, two panels are easier to open. Additionally, with two narrow panels, louvers lay against one another tightly when the louvers are closed, blocking the maximum amount of light recommends 3 ½ inch louvers. |
Louvers
Louvers are the horizontal slats in shutter panels. Allstar Shutters and Blinds offers three sizes of louvers: 2 ½, 3 ½, and 4 ½ inch. |

2 ½ inch louver
2 ½ inch louvers offer a slightly more traditional look.
Though they can be used in windows of any size. 2 ½ inch louvers are recommended for smaller windows.

3 ½ inch louver
3 ½ inch louvers are our most popular louver size. They offer a contemporary look. They also offer a more open view through the shutter than the 2 ½ inch louvers.
Though appropriate for windows of any size, they are best suited with larger windows.

4 ½ inch louver
4 ½ inch louvers offer a dramatic and contemporary look. They offer the most unobstructed views through the shutters than other louver sizes.
Because of the size of the louvers, they are typically mounted further away from the surface of the window and tend to protrude into the room.

Divider Rail
Divider rails allow separate operation of the louvers above and below the divider rail. Divider rails are utilized when you want to close the lower louvers for privacy and open the louvers above the divider rail for light and ventilation control. |
Tilt Rod
The tilt rod controls the movement of louvers. The tilt rod is mounted on the center of the louver on the face of the panel. |
Hidden Tilt Rod
The hidden tilt rod allows visibility through the louvers without the apparent distraction of a tilt bar. This feature is contemporary and may give the shutters an industrial appearance. |

Frame Options |
Trim Frame
The Trim Frame is considered an inside mount and is used for openings with drywall corners and no existing trim on the face of the wall (except possibly a sill at the bottom). Good for out of square windows because the extended trim covers any imperfections. Jamb depth required is a minimal 1-1/4". Provides a wider overlapping trim than the Z Frame (below) and may be ordered with or without Sill Frame at bottom for an opening with existing window sill. The Sill Frame sits flat on top of the window sill. |

New Deluxe Trim Frame
Similar to the Trim Frame above in application. This frame provides a wider face for homes with heavier moldings and a more formal look. If there are existing window sills, a sill frame may also be used as shown above. But check the extension of your sill to the left and right of the window opening. This frame may overlap up to 2-1/8" on to the wall, so it looks best when the sill extends at least that much too. Picture shows a window with an existing sill. |

Z Frame
Used for inside mount applications with drywall openings. Good for slightly out of square windows because extended leg covers any imperfections. Jamb depth required is a minimal 1-1/4". May be ordered with or without sill frame at bottom for openings with a window sill. Sill frame will sit flat on top of window sill (see Trim Frame above).
Note: Picture shows existing window sill without sill frame. If there is no existing sill, the Z Frame is used on all 4 sides. |

Outside Mount on top of existing trim, L Frame |

Inside Mount inside existing trim, L Frame |
L Frame
May be used for inside mounts on windows with existing wall trim and some depth clearance, if window openings are only slightly out of square. Some caulking may be required. Can also be used for outside mounts directly on top of trim or beside the trim on the wall. Used for mounting shutters on French doors. 1/2" extensions may be added to add up to 1" more depth when more clearance is required. |
Casing Frame
Used for outside mounts only. May be mounted on the wall face or directly on top of an existing trim that is a minimum of 2 5/8" wide. |
